Hi Eilish, I am excited that you would like to speak about my work. You are the 4th person that has asked me if it was ok, and just the second person I have said yes to. For me, it is important that the person who speaks about my work understands that it is real and really does help people. 1. How would you describe what you do? I am a change maker, I'm here to teach people that miracles are a part of every day life. I use words and energy to bring peoples health and their lives and relationships into a harmonious (or well) condition. I am a healer, and Reiki Master and Teacher and a public speaker, who works on stage to give healing to people in groups. 2. How did you get into doing what you are doing now? I was introduced to Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) healing, which is a form of energy healing through transference by hand of the Practitioner to the body of the patient (or client). Reiki is a japanese word. Rei means Universal and Ki is energy. In India the word for energy is Prana and in China the word for energy is Chi. Some people will have heard of the energy of Chi. It is more well known. 3. How long have you been doing what you are doing now? I have been a Reiki Master and Teacher since 2008. But I found my old school reports from childhood, and I have always been kind to people, helpful and nurturing. In 2004 I collected 15 tonnes of food, clothing, shovels rakes and household items for Cyclone ravaged Niue Island and my collection helped to save the birds and the fruit bats. So I am a humanitarian too. I also do Free Hugs in Auckland and have hugged thousands of people over the last few years. About 600 in a few hours when the Rugby World Cup was on in 2011. I have developed a new healing technique, one that is so simple everybody can use it and I am here to teach them how. 4.Did your upbringing influence the career path you took? My upbringing was really sad sometimes and also quite scary and so, yes it did, in a funny way. I always want to make people feel better and I want to inspire them to be brave and well, by showing them how I made myself well and survived. When I was 9 I had encephalitis and nearly died, and I also had glandular fever, and my father who was quite scary to me for most of my life, committed suicide a few years ago. I learned a lot about life, by having a tough life, and some of my teaching comes from that, so it makes what was a very hard situation into a sort of gift. 5. What is your job all about? Could you give an example? One man I worked on recently had two treatments with me and now he doesn't have to go to the chiropractor twice a week just to get pain relief for his back. He feels like he has a brand new back. He went to the chiropractor for 10 years. I teach people to do what I do and a lady recently told me she healed her husbands racing heart by using my technique. On my testimonial page www.debx.co.nz/testimonials.html there are loads of stories about how I have helped people be well. You could interview one or two for a comment if you wanted to. Some people I work on have been to other health professionals, or have been in pain for years and after they see me their pain is gone. I release pain from the body, mind and spirit. Lots of stress release, but also I have a great deal of success with sore backs, eyesight and old aches and pains. People say they feel lighter after treatment and many feel younger, and some feel taller!! A lot of my clients call me their miracle lady. 6. Does what you do influence your home life? It makes me a really weird mum. I don't believe in illness the same way other peoples mums do, so we don't need to go to the Doctors very often! I have a treatment room at home, and because I work with energy, I can work all over the world via Skype, my home is my clinic and also my office. Sometimes I work in my hammock. :) The only traffic jam I get is when my cat is asleep on the stairs. 7.What do you feel your purpose is? My purpose is to show people how simple healing is, how wonderful life is, how amazing and strong they are, and to help them when they feel lost. I am here to teach them how to use the power of their own words for wellness, to reveal tools for them to change their own lives, and to help them question their beliefs about their limitations. My work is almost like magic. 8. What/who are you inspired by? I am inspired by everyone - Einstein, Gandhi, Mother Teresa. I love the talks on www.Ted.com strongly advise you watch Janet Echelman because she is an amazing creative, and also watch Elizabeth Gilbert's great speech on Her Genius. I am inspired by the Dalai Lama, by kindness - love, courage, and freedom. By the trees, the grass the sky. By colour and light, and by nature. I love the sea. I once hugged an Oak tree, and it dropped its whole autumn leaf canopy at that exact moment all around me, so thousands of leaves swirled down around me. It sounded silent and whispery like it was snowing. I love science, and quantum physics, and can show you what I see if you have some time over the next couple of days. 9. Could you tell me a bit about your paintings? I love to paint. I don't often use a paint brush. I move colour around until I feel I am finished with the work I am doing. So my work is abstract and my hands get very dirty! Sometimes my paintings look like big wings or feathers, and people tell me they feel really uplifted by the colour in my work. I paint to heal people. and also because it makes me feel wonderful too. If you would like me to give a demonstration of my healing work, I can do that, I have also got a few photos on my website, you are welcome to take them from there, or if you want some I can send them to you. The Dalai Lama was once asked what his religion was, and he said his religion was kindness. Einstein said 'You can either choose to live your life as though nothing is a miracle or as though everything is a miracle.' I choose everything. Over and over and over again. Deb Rowley 021 726 276
